Taking a Look at the #NutriencePets Cat Food

Share
father's Day from the Cat

When it comes to cat food, you have a lot of choices. The key is to find one that is nutritionally complete, manufactured with high quality ingredients, and most importantly – one that your cats like to eat.

We were asked to try out the new Nutrience brand of cat food. Nutrience is a Canadian company whose pet food is now available for purchase in USA through Amazon. They source all of their ingredients from the best Canadian and US growers. They have a “no bad anything” promise which is backed by the quality North American ingredients they use in their cat food. All of their food is made in small batches, which allows them to focus on quality and maintain their commitment to natural, wholesome nutrition for active cats.

We tried the Grain-Free Turkey, Chicken and Herring cat food. This food is a great everyday diet for all life stages, but we especially love it for our active cats. Nutrience focuses on quality ingredients such as free-run chicken, deboned herring and whole egg, which gives us an idea of why our cats enjoy it so much.

A great everyday diet created for all life stages, Nutrience Grain Free Turkey, Chicken & Herring formula also suits active or sensitive pets, providing:

  • 4 premium protein sources for a range of amino acids
  • Marine-source Omega-3 fatty acids for a healthy skin & coat
  • Low-glycemic sweet potatoes & lentils to replace grains
  • Featuring 4 premium and varied protein sources including fresh turkey, free-run chicken, deboned herring & whole egg, along with regional fruits & vegetables, nutrient-rich botanicals, healthy fats and nutritional supplements.

Evaluating the Food

The first two ingredients in this cat food is deboned turkey and chicken meal. Deboned turkey is obviously a quality item, but once dehydrated, can reduce the meat content to just a fraction of it’s original weight. This is why the chicken meal is included – chicken meal is a meat concentrate that contains nearly 300% more protein than fresh chicken.

You’ll also notice that the ingredient list includes sweet potatoes (a gluten-free source of complex carbohydrates), peas (rich in natural fiber), and lentils (another quality source of carbohydrates and rich in fiber).

Fish is naturally rich in EPA and DHA type of omega-3 fatty acids which helps keep your cat’s coat sleek, helps with inflammatory diseases (including allergies, kidney and heart disease, etc.). It also has proven benefits for pets with arthritis.

Other ingredients you’ll find interesting are: coconut oil, pumpkin, butternut squash, carrots, spinach, broccoli, apples, pears, blueberries, cranberries, pomegranate, juniper berry extract, ginger, fennel, green tea extract, peppermint leaf, licorice root, turmeric. These are all natural extracts that help aid in digestion, reportedly slow the aging process and are believed to be “brain foods”.

The food also contains chicory root, which is rich in insulin. Insulin is a natural source of soluble dietary fiber and is used as a prebiotic to encourage the growth of healthy bacteria in your pet’s digestive tract.
