10 Luxury Dog Grooming Products that Improve Skin

Luxury dog grooming products

Skincare is important no matter what species you happen to be! There are many conditions that can develop if you don’t keep up with pet (or human) hygiene. At PetsWeekly.com, we see a lot of luxury skincare products roll through the industry (for pets and people). But, we narrowed down a few of our favorites in this post. This is our list of luxury dog grooming products that improve the condition for your pet’s skin.

The fact is that different dogs need different grooming products. Some dogs need to have a high pH product to offset yeast conditions. Other dogs need minimal grooming so as not strip their coats. Some dogs (usually white dogs) need tear removal products to keep that awful gunk from accumulating in the corners of their eyes, while still others need special grooming products for their many skin folds and wrinkles. So, let’s take a look at a few of our favorites and which types of dogs need what.

What type of dog do you have?

To begin with, you need to determine the type of dog you have and what are they most susceptible to. Some of the conditions you need to keep an eye on include:

  • Excess shedding can be normal or may be the result of an underlying condition. If you notice an excess of shedding, it may be time for your veterinarian to do some bloodwork.
  • Hot spots are common with double-coated dogs, especially during summer. If your dog loves to swim, be sure to keep a close eye on their skin in areas that don’t fully dry.
  • Itchy skin is sometimes a result of food intolerances or allergens. If the itching becomes excessive, it’s time to look at underlying causes.
  • Seasonal allergies often occur when spring arrives. Keep a close eye on your pets for sensitivities.
  • Yeast overgrowth occurs for many reasons, but if you notice skin turning suddenly black or fur falling out, it’s time to get some answers.

Pampering Your Pets Skin

Blueberry Facials for Dogs

This tearless, all-natural, pH balanced blueberry-scented face wash from South Bark will help brighten and clean your pets’ face and coat. Use this to help reduce tear stains and bring a healthy, clean white color to your pet’s natural white. No sulfates, no parabens and it uses very gentle surfactants which are used in baby care shampoo formulas. See our notes in the ingredient list below:

Ingredients: Purified Water, Polyquaternium 10 (for conditioning and anti-static qualities), Sodium C14-16 Olefin Sulfonate, Cocamide MIPA, Cocamidopropyl Betaine (all are gentle coconut-based surfactants), Aloe Vera (excellent for skin), dL Panthenol (pro-vitamin B5 for hair), Styrene/Acrylates Copolymer (not our favorite, but not dangerous), Fragrance, Vitamin A Acetate, Vaccinium Angustifolium (Blueberry Extract), Allantoin, Persea Gratissima (Avocado Oil), Chamomilla Recutita (German Chamomile), Citric Acid (for pH), Cetrimonium Chloride (more conditioning), FD&C Blue #1 (also not our favorite, but it’s safe enough)

Bath Salt Soaking Scrubs

Dermagic Salt Soaking Scrubs is an invigorating blend of Dead Sea salts and natural minerals helps to eliminate dandruff, draw toxins from the skin, and relieve itching. It’s the perfect way to help your pet slough off those dead skin cells after a long shed and it leaves your pet’s skin and coat fresh and deeply exfoliated. Dogs that are prone to yeast (I’m talking to you, pittie owners), will love the results of soaking paws in this luxurious combination of salts. Your dogs will love it too!

Formulated with organic whole-leaf aloe vera, vitamin E and rosemary essential oil, this special blend also chases fleas away and calms your pet at bath time. We LOVE this product for senior dogs with achy joints – you’ll see the difference in their attitudes as their pain levels melt quickly away. You can either use it for a warm soak in the tub, as a paw soak, or grab a handful of the salts and gently massage away dead skin (especially helpful for hairless breeds and dogs suffering from black skin disease or other yeast conditions).

Ingredients: Epsom Salt, Dead Sea Salt, Sodium Bicarbonate (Baking Soda – for pH balance), Dendritic Salt, Diatomaceous Earth, Rosemary Essential Oil, Vitamin E, and aloe vera

Mud Baths for Luxury Dog Grooming

Mud masks for dogs? Yep, sure enough! MadraMor offers four different types of soothing muds! Simply massage on, leave in for 20 minutes, and then shampoo as normal.

Each type offers a different experience. While this may seem like an extreme type of grooming procedure, we think it holds value in rejuvenating dry skin, protecting skin and coat, and helping to naturally release old dead fur when the shedding seems like it’s going on forever.

The mixture of nutrient-rich components like mineral mud, seaweed kelp, aloe, grape seed oil, and omega essential oils serves to feed the skin while providing a thorough cleanse and exfoliation. The Madra Mor canine spa treatment aims to safeguard your cherished pet’s skin, helping to prevent skin issues. It’s a must-have addition to your dog supplies and pet products, delivering robust relief from dog itch, allergy support, and relief from itchy skin.

Conditioner Bars for Coat Care

There are TONS of great conditioners on the market, but the one we most love is the Conditioner bar from DERMagic. They’re simply the best! With only four ingredients, and pure organic essential oils, they are not only good for your pet’s coat, they’re good for the environment. Each bar lasts for months (years depending on the frequency with which you wash your dogs). Just slide over your pets coat, rinse off and your dog will have a silky smooth coat for weeks. It even helps repel oils and dirt a bit!

These are ideal for short-haired dogs or long-haired dogs. The ingredient list is short, but the main star is BTMS-50, which is the most luxurious conditioning agent we’ve ever used (we even use them on our own hair). These bars don’t leave a build-up and they never strip coats. They also include Shea butter (an emollient butter rich with vitamins), cetyl alcohol (that offers amazing moisturizing benefits) and pure essential oils (our favorite is the Lemongrass-mint) bar.

Leave In Conditioning Sprays for Spritzing Freshness

When you just need to restore a dog’s fresh scent and silky coat, these sprays will do it. Both of these sprays can be used any time and are all free from parabens, phtalates, DEA, PEG and sulfates.

The first is our favorite Leave In Conditioning Spray – the Coconut Conditioning spray from Lucy Pet. Lucy Pet Products is one of our favorites and we love the fresh, coconut scent. This spray has lots of vitamins and minerals, including chamomile flower extract and papaya fruit extract (both enhance shine). They also have silk amino acids for a silky smooth finish that also provides detangling properties.

Surfin’ Jack™ Leave-in Conditioning Spray Ingredients: Water, Coconut and Vegetable Based conditioners, Cetrimonium Chloride, Chamomile Flower Extract and Papaya Fruit Extract (shine enhancers), Silk Amino Acids (hair detangler), Panthenol (hair strengthener), Hydrolyzed Whole Oats (moisturization), Tocopheryl Acetate (antioxidant), Polysorbate 20, safe and effective preservatives: (Phenoxyethanol, Caprylyl Glycol and Ethylhexyl glycerin), Fragrance.

We also really like the BarkLogic brand of natural moisturizing and conditioning spray. Did you know that pet companies are not required to provide their ingredient list? This can present a problem in reviews, and we often have to take the brand’s word that what they are offering is indeed what they say. However, BarkLogic is a brand we trust to provide high-quality products. The company assures us that all ingredients are derived from natural sources and the scents are from pure essential oils. So, we are trusting that this is true. No ingredient list provided.

Skin Soothers for Wrinkly Dogs

If you haven’t seen the products from Natural Dog Company, it’s time to take a look. We love many of their products because they’re very simple and direct. For example, the Skin Soother is a small moisturizer for areas that grow dry or yeasty in the folds of large, wrinkly dogs (we’re looking at you, bulldogs!). They use very simple, all-nautral ingredients, that are incredibly effective at reducing redness, improving hydration, and eliminating dandruff and dry skin.

Apres Bath Experiences for Dogs

We recently found an Australian skin care company that we fell in love with – it’s called Dog by Dr Lisa and she has some absolutely wonderful products that are ideal for pets! Her Dog Calm Cologne is 100% biodegradable and made from plant-based ingredients that are gentle and smell amazing. This spray is made with pure essential oils that include lavender, bergamot, frankincense and chamomile.

We also adore her Leave-in Conditioner spray, which is a very gentle but effective blend of natural anti-static ingredients, amazing conditioning ingredients, and smells like a dream. These can be applied at any time and are ideal for dogs of all breeds!

The most fun item we received was her adorable bamboo robes for dogs. These super soft, well-fitted bamboo fabric dry your dog and keep them cozy after a bath. It’s the ultimate apres-bath experience for dogs!

Paw Pad Pampering for All Dogs

Natural Dog Company’s signature balms include the best selling Snout Soother, a vegan beeswax-based product fortified with organic essential oils, Shea Butter, and Vitamin E. Loved by dogs of all breeds, Snout Soother is available in five convenient sizes and two packaging options (three sizes of tins as well as two easy to apply sticks).

Paw-dicure for Pretty Paws

For some stylish nails full of color, check out Warren London’s Pawdicure Pen. Featuring fast-drying (polish paint dries on your pup’s nails in under 40 seconds) it’s an easy way to add some color to your pet’s paws for easy smudge-free application. It’s non-toxic, water-based, and odorless.

Wrinkle Removal for Wrinkly Dogs

In addition to Snout Soother, Natural Dog Company also makes balms specifically for paws, skin, and yeast infections in facial wrinkles. This is ideal for those dogs who have large folds of skin around their face and body (we’re talking to you, bloodhounds, bassets, bulldogs and shar-pei owners!).

Doggie Wipes and Tushie Wipes for All Dogs

We’ve talked about the importance of having dog tushie wipes on hand at all times, and I’m here to reiterate this sentiment! This is especially important during travel. So, let’s take a quick look at two of our faves. But, regular wipes are also important!

That’s why we love the Jax and Cali wipes. They are incredibly durable and made with all-natural materials, making for easy disposal. Best of all, these wipes are pH balanced, fragrance free and free from Alcohol, Parabens, DMDM Hydantoin (Formaldehyde), Propylene Glycol and Butylene Glycol, Ethanolamines (DEA, TEA, MEA), Polyaminopropyl Biguanide (PHMB), SLS, Latex, and other harsh chemicals. They are also incredibly easy to keep in your car or bag while you’re on the go.

Speaking of Pet Freshness in Cars…

Canine Calm from EarthHeart is worth its weight in gold. This spray is ideal for on-the-go calming. combine it with these unscented, biodegradable pill towels from AZSoapworks and you have a permanent calming solution.

Apres-Groom Dog Products

There’s no sense in experiencing these amazing products if you can’t show off your work! We found these amazing feather weaves from PuppyLock yars ago and it’s perfect for giving your dog the ultimate bespoke experience! See how they work and how adorable they are on your dog!
