New Technology for Controlling Pet Disease

Share

The findings of a noted graduate and Ultraviolet (UV) Researcher of Pennsylvania State University, Dr. Wladyslaw Kowalski, PhD, P.E., were recently profiled in the news and shows the effectiveness of PetAirapy products in controlling and preventing allergies and diseases in pets.

Dr. Kowalski, P.E. has determined the effectiveness of PetAirapy products on an array of pet diseases and allergens affecting dogs, cats, birds, and other pets as well as their owners.

“PetAirapy™ has taken the lead in this important area of infection control for pets and has focused on solutions that have the greatest promise and potential for controlling airborne and surface-borne pathogens,” said Dr. Kowalski, P.E.

PetAirapy™ offers products for air and surface disinfection that are designed to eliminate viruses, bacteria and fungi to reduce the risk of infection through the use of ultraviolet germicidal irradiation (UVGI).

Dr. Kowalski’s research indicates the technology proven to reduce the transmission and incidence of human diseases is just as effective in controlling pet diseases as well. He found the principles of UVGI operate the same way in preventing infection in humans and pets.

According to Dr. Kowalski, P.E., PetAirapy™ provides four major types of systems:

  • UVGI air disinfection equipment for cleaning in-duct ventilation air and sterilizing cooling coils.
  • UVGI upper room systems for in-room air cleaning.
  • UVGI recirculation units.
  • UVGI area disinfection units for sterilizing surfaces

“All of these technologies have an extensive track record of effectiveness in countless applications in hospitals, homes, and commercial buildings,” said Dr. Kowalski, P.E. “They will work equally well for the reduction of pathogens and allergens that cause pet diseases in homes, animal shelters, animal laboratories, veterinary clinics, kennels, and wherever pets are housed.”

PetAirapy™ has the ability to identify UV disinfection rates of nearly one hundred common pet pathogens and allergens such as canine influenza, H1N1 influenza (swine flu), parainfluenza, parvovirus, herpesvirus, rabies, Bordetella and many others.

The majority of pet diseases are also transmissible to humans, so these technologies will reduce the risk of infection for pet owners, breeders, veterinarians, and anyone who works with pets. PetAirapy’s™ UVGI surface disinfection systems also sterilize exposed surfaces like walls, floors and pet cages to remove zoonotic pathogens and allergens.
