The Awkward Topic of Dog Tush Wipes
Share
Having a dog is not always tossing Frisbees and cuddling on the couch during cold nights. There are lots of times you have to play nursemaid, do extensive grooming and, as you know, dogs are forever getting into things that are unpleasant (and even more unpleasant when they come back out).
Some dogs need some extra help staying clean. Long-haired dogs, pets recovering from illness or senior pets often need extra help with keeping their tushies clean.
Some dogs (like my dog, Bree) have a genetic defect known as hypoplastic vulva which is a common condition of canine conformation in which the vulva is at least partially engulfed by the skin folds that surround it. Spayed female dogs are predisposed to this condition and if you don’t keep that area clean, your dog can wind up with bacteria in that area – causing ongoing issues with yeast infections, UTIs and more.
So, as much as this is not our favorite topic, it’s an important one – we’re talking about cleaning the nether regions and more importantly, the benefits of tush wipes.
Now, you can make your own Quick Clean Wipes for Pets make your own tush wipes for dogs, or you can buy them (personally one of our fave methods). Whatever you choose, you need to make sure you choose safe brands – and you’ll be really surprised at how many are not safe.

In fact, they’re really not all that safe for babies – but since human babies don’t spend a lot of time licking themselves, they aren’t quite as dangerous. Dogs and cats, on the other hand, do spend a lot of time licking and cleaning themselves so anything you put on the outside will eventually end up on the inside.
Fortunately, there are lots of products on the market that make it easy to keep our pets clean. The trick is finding one that is safe. Most baby wipes or pet wipes contain SLS, parabens, propylene glycol, and other chemicals. These things can be very dangerous (even toxic) if your pets ingest them, which they are most assuredly going to do when it’s applied to their bum or coat.
That’s why it’s so important to use a product specifically designed for pets…
One of our favorites is the Earthbath Tushy Wipes that are free from alcohol and lanolin, and contain no SLS, parabens or other chemicals. These extra thick wipes hold up to any coat or mess and the ingredient list is simple:
Purified Water, saccharomyces ferment filtrate, Hawaiian awapuhi extract, aloe vera, natragem, cucumber extract, chamomilla recutita, glycerin, vitamin E, sodium bicarbonate (baking soda), phenoxyethanol, natural preservative.
The specially textured wipes have mild yet effective cleansers to remove stuck on mess and stains. Aloe vera, vitamin E, and chamomile (which also helps calm pets) provide soothing relief. Safe for all animals over 6 weeks old. Their products do not contain anything that would harm your pet or the environment. There is no soap, gluten, DEA, parabens, synthetic dyes or perfumes, SLS/SLES, phthalates, or enzymes and earthbath’s products are all animal cruelty-free.
earthbath Tushy Wipes offer a safe and convenient way to keep your pet’s tush fresh, clean and odor free. Just swipe and go. The wipes are gentle and non-irritating, and it neutralizes unpleasant odors.
