Giving Back with 1-800-Pet-Meds

As you know, we have been working closely with 1-800-PetMeds to offer a cornucopia of pet supplies to independent rescues over the past few months (if you haven’t signed up to receive these donations, please fill out this form). There have been many who have benefited from this arrangement. During the Holiday Pet Festival, we were able to donate an extra large stroller to a group who has a large dog in recovery (he lost a leg and is learning how to cope), and after he has adjusted from surgery, it will be used to help hundreds of other animals cope in the interim.

We donated two telescoping ramps to two large dog rescues and I was simultaneously surprised, happy and sad when one of the women began crying at the donation. She had recently purchased a large SUV to more easily transport large shepherds with dysplasia to the veterinarian for treatment, but quickly learned that the SUV was too high for the dogs to climb into. This quite literally saved her after a recent back surgery (she was lifting dogs into cars despite the injury) and helped make the treatment protocol of an entire pack of animals a little easier.

These are the types of things that make my heart sing. I love being able to turn a product review into a donation. And fortunately, we are able to do a lot of that…

So we want to talk about 1800PetMeds, a group that has been very generous in making quarterly donations to the cause. Their “tag-line” is “America’s largest pet pharmacy”, but they are so much more than that… They manufacture hundreds of high-quality pet supplies (ranging from shampoo to joint support chews) under their own brand name, and they are a massive supplier of low-cost, high-quality pet supplies and medications. Recently, they implemented a wonderful education section where you can learn about everything from nutraceuticals to seat belt safety and winterization tips for pets.

They even have a vet on staff. His name is Dr. Michael Dym, VMD and he’s well-qualified to take on any questions you may have. If you are looking for some quick tips, check out “Max’s Tip of the Month”. This month, they discuss medications available for compounding.

Before you run out to a large brick & mortar pet retailer, check out the pricing and vast selection available from 1800PetMeds. The best part? You don’t even have to leave your home. They ship directly to you and their pricing is fantastically low. It’s like wholesale pricing for retail consumption.

There are a lot of reasons to love this group, but the reason we shop there is because they offer a wide selection of products at low prices, they help rescue groups, and we never have to leave our pets alone to resupply (which is an added bonus for semi-agoraphobic writer who prefers animals to people)!
