In case you’ve been living in a cave for the past 10 years, you already know that technology for pets is the next big thing. This means everything from activity trackers to automated feeders.
Are you thinking your dog or cat needs some new pet tech? 2018 may be your year! Companies are introducing lots of new ideas to the market.
The Petrics Smart Pet Bed is a product that’s long overdue. I’ve got to be honest – this looks almost too good to be true. We haven’t had a chance to try this out yet, but I’m really hoping we do get the chance.
According to the website, the Petrics Smart Pet Bed tracks your pet’s weight, rest and activity levels, and even offers climate control.
While the bed appears to be primarily centered on helping you monitoring your pet’s weight, we see a lot of other applications for this technology. Anyone who has had a dog or cat that refuses to act sick when they are sick, can attest to this device helping you predict problems and getting an ill animal into the veterinarian before a situation escalates. The key to pet health is early detection and intervention – something this bed allows you to monitor.
There are lots of applications for this bed. For example, identifying and treating an illness before it escalates, improving comfort levels in extreme temperatures, improving the comfort of pets who are sensitive to heat, and tracking weight gain or loss.

Heating and Cooling Climate Control for Pets
The bed is capable of thermostatic heating and cooling, allowing the bed to automatically adjust according to breed, weight, environment, and geographic location.
The Petrics Health and Nutrition App also enables you to manually adjust the bed’s temperature if you are seeking specific results. Since the app also connects with smart home devices, you can also utilize environmental control of your home.
For those of us in extreme climates, this is a critical feature!
Built In Scale
The Petrics bed offers a built-in scale to more easily track your pet’s progress towards weight gain or weight loss. It can also calculate caloric burn rates, rest levels and more.
Activity Tracker
Accompanying the bed is a waterproof, wearable activity tracker, which allows you to track health and nutrition data, sharing it with your pet-care resources (this includes pet sitters, family members, veterinarians, and more).
You can also set veterinary reminders, track application days for routine care (who last fed your pets, flea and tick treatments, supplements, and medication). It can even notify you of potentially deadly food recalls.
Creates Nutritional Profile
Not sure what to feed your pet? This device will prepare nutritional profiles and even make recommendations on care.
The battery life of the tracker is a generous 4-months, so there’s no need to charge it like other trackers. According to the website, it’s one of the smallest and smartest collar communication devices on the market.
Where Can I Buy It?
The Petrics Smart Pet Bed is available in three sizes and features a washable, replaceable cover.
So, what will this new technology cost? Well, we don’t know yet. The bed was just profiled at CES 2018, but it’s expected to be available soon and we’ll soon find out. We’ll keep you updated as we learn more!
