Three Healthy, Homemade Cat Treats Your Feline Will Adore

What cat doesn’t like some sort of a treat every once in a while? However, those store-bought treats are nutrition-limited, weighed down and unhealthy for your beloved feline. They’re loaded with preservatives, high-calorie ingredients, miscellaneous food parts and artificial coloring. Not to mention that these store-bought treats are expensive if you figure the cost per pound rather than the two or three ounce containers they’re sold in. You probably could get a high-quality steak at your local supermarket for what you pay for all those packages of treats.

In fact, you probably have items right in your kitchen to make yummy treats. It’d be less expensive for you and much healthier for your kitty—it’s a win, win situation! These cat treats are very simple to make and you could make three or four batches at a time, freeze two or three batches for several weeks and then bake them when you need to. You can bake them right after taking them out of the freezer, just be sure to increase the baking time by 8-10 minutes or you can thaw the dough and bake as the directions indicate. It’s that easy!

Here are three great recipes for homemade cat treats:

Preheat your oven to 350˚ F. Lightly coat a cookie sheet with cooking spray and set aside. In a medium-sized bowl, blend all of the ingredients and mix well. Place small amounts of the mixture (½ teaspoon) on your sprayed cookie sheet and then bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes. Take the cookie sheet out of your oven and cool on a wire rack. When cooled, these treats should be put in a plastic bag or sealed container and stored in your freezer or refrigerator. (Note: If your cat doesn’t care for ham, you may substitute chicken or beef baby food.) This recipe makes about 3 dozen treats.

Preheat your oven to 350˚ F. In a medium-sized bowl, combine all four measured ingredients; mix well with your hands. Using a floured rolling pin, roll out until the mixture is ¼-inch thick, slice into small, treat-sized pieces and arrange onto a greased cookie sheet. Bake for 20 minutes or until golden brown; remove from the oven and let the treats cool.

Preheat your oven to 350˚ F. In a medium-sized bowl, blend all of the ingredients to create dough. Powder your hand with some flour and make little, round, ½-inch thick “biscuits”. Place them onto a sprayed cookie sheet and bake for 30 minutes or until the treats are lightly brown.

The next time you decide to make some treats for you and your family, why not make one of these healthy treats for your precious feline? You can even get the kids involved! You’ll get to spend time together and they’ll be learning something in the process. Most likely, once your furry, four-legged friend tastes these yummy cat treats, he’ll be in the kitchen to “help” too!
