WaterCollar – A PFD for Dogs

As you may have seen on the news, Arizona has been experiencing some of the most intense rain and flooding in over 100 years. This creates a new set of problems with our pets because we’re seeing waterways and pools overflowing, even as temperatures soar from 90-100+ degrees.

Even if your pet is an excellent swimmer, he may have problems finding his way out of a pool or waterway and this can result in drownings. Drownings occur often when pets who are warm, enter the pool to cool off, then can’t find the stairs to climb out. As a result, we are always searching for ways to keep our pets safe around water when we’re not home.

Recently, we stumbled upon a unique solution from Hedz UP Pets called the WatercollarTM.

This uniquely designed flotation device holds the dog’s head and nose above water, even if he is completely unconscious.

Strong straps attach the WatercollarTM to the pet’s own collar, which allow the collar to comfortably hang away from the dog’s neck, giving him freedom of movement and clear sight around water risks.

So, why is this different than any other personal flotation device (PFD or life jacket) for dogs? The big difference is that a holds your dog in a horizontal position, requiring your dog to keep his head above water.

The WaterCollar holds your pet in a nose-up position, which can mean the difference between life and death if your dog is not found for an hour or longer. Here’s a video about how it works.

Pricing for the WaterCollar begins at $45 and ranges to $65. That is a very small price to pay for your pet’s safety! Whether your dog is 3 lbs or 200 lbs, Hedz UP Pets has a solution that will work.

The collar is available in thirteen sizes and it’s critically important that you select the correct size. You must be sure your dog’s own collar is correctly fitted and will not pull off over their head.

To make sure you have the proper fit, you’ll need your dog’s weight and neck size. If you have questions on how to obtain the perfect fit, be sure to call Hedz UP Pets for some sizing guidelines.

If you are a boater, enjoy camping at the lake, have a dog that doesn’t naturally swim well, have a pool, or just want to be around water with your pet without worrying about their safety, this is a collar you should invest in.

We recently tried it on a dog who is not a great swimmer (Brock) and due to some hip issues, he is doing some water therapy. This seemed to help him feel a little more secure in the water. Because he has a standard “pit/terrier” body, he tends to be a little uneven in the water. This helped him avoid the awkwardness of a “regular” life jacket and he seemed to feel a lot more secure in the water.

Buy a special water-resistant collar so you can leave it attached to the PFD all the time, that way you only need to change your pet’s collar when you’re near water. We recommend buying a waterproof, anti-mold/mildew collar so you don’t have to worry about things drying out.
