TrackR Uses Crowd GPS To Locate Your Pets

Trackr GPS

It’s tough finding a GPS collar or tag that is small enough for your cat or tiny dog to wear, but the TrackR tag meets that requirement. This tiny device attaches to your pets collar and uses “Crowd Tracking” (more about this below) to locate your lost pet (or luggage or car or anything else).

The tracking is not as detailed as the standard tracker, but it’s new technology. Rather than pinpoint the item, it tells you when you’re near it by using “hot” or “cold” cues (which we all remember from our childhood games).

A 2-way separation alert (when you pet gets too far from your phone) alerts you so you never have to worry about leaving a pet behind.

The device is only the size and thickness of a quarter, which makes it the perfect size for a small pet.

However, before purchasing this item, remember that in order to work accurately, it must be attached to your pet. That means, if your pet is excellent at losing a collar, the gps tracker will disappear as well.

TrackR is relatively new technology utilizing a relatively new technology known as Crowd GPS. This tech not only helps the device preserve battery life, but eliminates the need for an expensive monthly fee.

Also, in order to function properly, the Crowd GPS technology requires another TrackR user to walk by the lost item to update the owner of the lost item with a GPS update of where the item is located.  This may not seem like a lot of coverage, especially if you’ve never heard of the technology. But, when you see the map of Crowd GPS users, you may be surprised (especially if you reside back East).

They do understand that Bluetooth tags are a new technology and that there is plenty of room for growth in their network (especially in the West). However, according to their website, they “currently hold the largest Crowd GPS network in the world and plan to maintain this lead.”
