Top 10 Favorite New Products at SuperZoo

As you know, we head off to Vegas for the annual SuperZoo trade show and each year, we come back with ideas on how to manage your multi-species life a little easier.

This year, there were hundreds of new products that impressed us to no end. In fact, it was nearly impossible to select just ten! We did though, and while these were in our main list, we will be adding the other impressive products as we move through the year.

For now, let’s start off with some of the products that will be most beneficial to all who dwell in a multi-species home!

1. Pet Feeder

Feed-Safe Feeding Station from the same people who created (and have now upgraded) Litter Robot II. This product is the perfect solution to feeding small pets in a home with larger animals.

2. Zen Clipper

Pet Product Innovations came out with our absolute favorite product from the show – a set of nail clippers that make sure you will only clip the tip of a nail, rather than the quick. If you’re as worried as we are about clipping the nails of a nervous animal, you will love this product as much as we do. It’s perfect for cats and dogs, ferrets, or birds. The unique conical design ensures you’re clipping only the tip of the claw. It’s made from stainless steel and features silicone handles, all of which is made and machined in the USA.

3. BioBubble Evolution Habitats

There is a lot to love about the new reptile habitats from BioBubble. The Evolution habitat is designed for easy modification and cleaning. Full front access doors, sleek hinged canopies and screen tops, photographic 3D molded backgrounds and pull out substrate trays make cleaning a breeze. The lightweight acrylic viewing panels are crack resistant and each terrarium is expandable and stackable for easy expansion of your menagerie. You can easily create semi-aquatic environments and the easy configuration makes assembly and shipping a breeze. We’re very excited about these options!

4. Dermagic

Just out a few months, the new Spritz from DERMagic is available and we LOVE it! This is the perfect freshening spritz for those times between baths. The all natural spray eliminates odor, replacing it with a light scent that not only makes your pet smell better, it makes your pet feel better. The essential oils in the spray help brighten your pet’s coat, making it easy to comb out dirt and debris. The weightless lemongrass, aloe vera, and spearmint botanicals detangle fur and promote healthy skin.

Made in the USA, it’s our favorite product this year for helping keep our dogs healthy and happy!

5. Honest Kitchen

You know we’re a big fan of Honest Kitchen and now they have come out with several new recipes that we can’t wait to try. The Minimalist Recipes are limited-ingredient recipes that contain only six whole foods (plus vitamins and minerals) which is perfect for dogs with food sensitivities or intolerances. Each recipe is made without gluten, white potatoes, eggs or beef. They come in three different recipes:

In addition to these minimalist recipes, they offer epicurean recipes, which includes the Halcyon (Duck) recipe and Zeal (fish-based, grain-free recipe) that we adore!

6 Woodrow Wear Socks for Dogs

They aren’t exactly new because we’ve been talking about them for years, but Woodrow Wear has made so many improvements to the socks that they are like new! In eight sizes from XXSmall to XXXLarge, Power Paws traction socks for dogs are now available to help any sized dog. The tough new reinforced material lasts much longer and they are perfect for dogs who are seniors (and tend to slip on tile or wood floors) as well as on dogs who have injuries (like lick granuloma) in a tough place (the socks allow the wound to breathe and facilitate quick healing).

We also love them for protecting our pets from the hot summer surfaces in Arizona. They are also perfect for pets who have dysplasia or arthritis because they give them just enough traction to stand without extra effort. These make great gifts (but make sure you get the right size). We especially love that they don’t fall off like boots.

7. Edupet Cat Toy Cat Center and Slow Feeder

The Edupet Cat Toy Slow Feeder and Activity Center is a really neat interactive feeding station for your cat! The trick part? It features more than one option for feeding and entertainment (because we know cats love to play with their food). The center features seven elements to help your cat learn by playing and discovering. This “Smart Toy” is an ideal option for cats who need extra stimulation. It’s dishwasher safe and made from BPA-free plastic.

8. HighTech Pet BlueFang Pet Door

This is one of the more amazing pet doors you’ll see on the market. The Power Pet Large Electronic Pet Door PX-2 features bullet-proof glass, automatic dead bolt lock, an auto-safety retract system (so no worries about tails getting squished), and a user-friendly control panel. Your pet’s collar activates the vertically-lifting door and it lifts vertically. I was very impressed with the advanced technology and performance of this fully automatic pet door. Activated by a collar, Power Pet ® gives you motorized activation, directional sensing, 4-way access control, AC or battery operation, auto safety retract and the ability of the collar to operate other pet activated devices.

Here are a just a few of the features:

9. SureFeed

As you can see, we’re a bit obsessed with options that help keep food fresh and protect food from other members of the household (including dogs, infants and most bugs). Cats are temperamental eaters and don’t always eat on command. If you have (ahem) “bully” cats who are a bit overweight due to their propensity to steal food, this is that much more important. It’s also critical to have one of these if you have a pet on a prescription diet.

SureFeed has created a perfect solution for these multi-pet homes and it’s called the SureFeed Microchip Pet Feeder. The bowl operates on RFID technology (your pet’s microchip) and it makes sure that you’re feeding each pet the correct amount each day. The feeder requires a few minutes to show to your very intelligent feline friend, but they will appreciate the ease and comfort of enjoying a meal at their own pace. Here’s how it works:

10. Cute Clothing

We have three contenders for the best pet clothing and quite frankly, I love them all and can’t choose just one. So let’s mention them all: Ruffwear for their new Powder Hound Coat, UpCountry (for their “Church Coat” – which we can’t wait to try out this winter), and Cold Woof! Pet Thermals for their comfy line of base apparel (perfect for dogs who have to play in a very cold climate or those short-coated dogs who are always cold!)

Ruffwear Powder Hound Coat:The Powder Hound™ hybrid jacket combines the warmth of synthetic insulation with a breathable, technical stretch fabric for range of motion. Sleeved jacket provides full coverage and performance fit with zipper closure. This weather resistant and packable insulated jacket is ideal for cold weather activities.

UpCountry Church Coat: Sadly I can’t even find a cute photo of this coat. So I’ll do my best to describe it. The coat is a warm corduroy that features a faux-fur lining around the hood (yes, the hood – which is totally adorable!). This is a perfect cold-weather coat for short-haired dogs or those who are just hypersensitive to cool weather. It will look perfect if you attend a formal event.

Cold Woof! Thermal Wear: These are the perfect additions to create base layers for dogs or cats who get easily cold. They remind me of the thermal long-johns we had to wear up at the cabin in winter when I was young. I suspect these will have the same effect on your pup as they did on us as kids.
