NekoFlies (And So Do Our Cats)

Share

Like it or not, cats are hunters. When you make any attempt to squash that natural instinct, you’re asking for trouble in the form of behavioral and physical challenges (such as spraying, bullying, fighting, and more).  But this instinct doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice birds or mice or any other living creatures. It can be easily satisfied with realistic toys and one of the best we’ve found is Neko Flies.

Environmental enrichment is critical for cats. Since none of our cats are allowed in the great outdoors without leash and harness, we have designed a very large indoor/outdoor enclosure that is heated and cooled. Our feral cats, which were relocated, have it pretty easy. But one thing we have to remain vigilant about is providing the opportunity for them to “hunt” in this controlled environment. Our indoor cats are exactly the same – take away their hunting ability and they will begin to exhibit signs of restlessness, frustration, and general behavioral problems. Playing with your cats will eliminate 90% of these issues!

Neko Flies is a very simple fishing pole type of a toy that uses various lures which are interchangeable. This is an incredibly simple way to ensure your pets are satisfied with new prey each day. We absolutely love this concept! The lures are all exactly what they sound like. We have the Kragonfly, the Kittenator, and the Kattipede. But there are many more available from NekoFlies.

Here’s a preview of how much our cats love Neko Flies:

NekoFlies toys are fashioned to look just like the typical little creatures that cats so enjoy toying with. The specialty toys can be easily interchanged with the click of a hook and you can easily interchange lures (our cat’s favorites are the Kattipeded or Kiticatterfly).

These toys are incredibly durable, high-quality and designed to last. Each of them looks like and moves like the bugs they are designed to mimic. Our cats love the lures so much, we have had to relocate the toy to several secure locations in order to keep them away from it when it’s not playtime!

Depending on where you buy the toy, the base unit rod and one lure will cost between $15 – $25. Each lure runs approximately $10 – $15. It’s the best investment you’ll make for your cats!
