There are few things as frustrating as trying to make sure your cats are receiving the proper diet in a multipet home. When dogs are sneaking bites of dry food, or you’re making your best attempt to keep the weight of a gluttonous obese cat while you’re mild-mannered feline meekly awaits dinner, life can become suddenly complex. Thankfully, we have some new technology that will allow you to feed individualized diets to multiple pets. Things have come a long way since we last discussed this topic! Bowls and feeders are also available to help keep pets out of the cat food, or to assist in feeding individual diets in multi-pet households. So if feeding individual diets to multiple pets is a problem, it’s time to invest in a feeder. We found a few that are very promising!

In a perfect world, there would be no need for a fence. Our dogs would run free, graciously approaching other dogs who would greet them with a tail wag instead of teeth. They would never chase a squirrel. They would always come home when called, tired and panting from a long run. Unfortunately, we don’t live in a perfect world. There are thousands of dangers that lurk in the shadows for dogs who escape a yard. Microchips and collar identification helps, the internet helps, fencing helps. But the bottom line is that you must keep your pets contained. Of course, we prefer regular fencing, but that’s not always possible. Some yards are too big, or there are HOA requirements that prohibit fencing. That’s where the Motorola WIRELESSFENCE25 Wireless Fence for Home or Travel comes into play. This is a wireless fencing system that is so flexible, you can use it anywhere you need to set up a confined perimeter, including indoors (to keep pets from raiding litter boxes) or outdoors while traveling (i.e., camping).

A look at the Neato Robotic Vacuum

Sometimes, I get a product in and no matter what I write, I really can’t find the words to explain how much I love something. The Neato Botvac 80 Robot Vacuum self-cleaning vacuum is one such product. With outstanding filtration and maneuverability, the Neato allows you to maintain clean floors without lifting a finger.

The Neato Botvac 80 Robot Vacuum is equipped with cleaning brushes that allow it to agitate and lift stubborn dirt and clingy pet hair. Its powerful suction motor then lifts what the brushes have loosened. It travels in a unique pattern to ensure it doesn’t miss a spot and is very different than iRoomba’s “randomized” pattern or other vacuums “back and forth” patterns. The NEATO system is very intuitive, intelligent and almost scary at how smart it is.

The Neato Botvac 80 utilizes a laser-guided navigation system to clean a room. It glides from bare floors to low-pile carpeting without any fuss, and it easily navigates around obstacles without “crashing” into them.

This is an ideal system if you have a lot of “nooks” that animals can get into and leave hair behind (such as the bed) and if your cat accidentally leaves her “mouse toy” behind the chair, you can trust the Neato to avoid it via nifty laser navigation. The pattern looks a lot like this:

Automating Your Home For Pets

Not long ago, we had the opportunity to talk with Craig Pyles from Vivint. In case you don’t know, Vivint is a group who handles the automation, security and energy conservation of homes. We talked to them about how easy it is to automate a home for your pets and I wanted to share some of the great things that are available not only from them, but from nearly any security group (and ways you can utilize this technology for yourselves.)

Now you can make sure your pet is comfortable and safe during the day with a Smart Thermostat, smoke and carbon monoxide detectors, and state-of-the-art security system. If you’re running late or need to let a friend in to take care of your pet, just use our automatic door locks and lock the door remotely after they leave. It’s as simple as that.

Of course we would never advocate for spending less time with your pets, but if you ever find yourself stuck in traffic, or running late after a long day at the office, these are some ways you can make sure your pets are safe and comfortable until you arrive home.
