If you live in the desert like we do, you probably don’t know a lot about mud rooms. But anywhere it rains a lot, mud rooms are a must-have. They keep people and pets from tracking mud throughout the house, they provide a place to hang your coat, set your muddy boots aside, and most importantly – clean paws and dry off wet dogs before they enter the home.

Here are a few of our favorite mud room designs and some great items to keep in your mud room at all times - because even if you live in the desert, keeping homes clean can be a challenge!

Cleaning products can take a serious toll on both you and your pets’ health. While we always want to do what is best for our pets, we often get drawn into advertising claims. It happened to us when we recently learned that one of our favorite cleaners, Simple green all-purpose cleaner, isn't as green as we thought.

Despite being green colored, being labeled “green” and being toted as an “environmental” product, it could be toxic. What it does contain is 2-butoxyehtanol, an organic solvent that is a butyl ether. What that means is that it has the potential to damage red blood cells.

Now, you’re not going to immediately go into liver failure if you use this product, and neither is your pet. But if you do use it, you should dilute it prior to use. It even says so on the label, but no one ever reads the label…

If you want to play it safe, we have found some alternative products that are natural and safe – on top of that, they actually work...

Flor Carpet Squares for Pet-friendly Design

Ever since we put in our cat enclosure, we’ve been searching for the perfect flooring material. We finally found it. Today we want to share with you a look at Flor carpet design squares – a great flooring alternative for stylish, pet-friendly design!

As you all know, we moved our colony of feral and semi-feral cats with us a few years ago. There were a lot of reasons for doing this, but safety was the number one factor. Since we now live in a remote area, we built an indoor-outdoor enclosure for our wilder cats. The outdoor enclosure requires nothing but easy access, fun places to hide, and some nice indoor/outdoor furniture to lounge upon. But our indoor area needed something that the cats wouldn’t be able to tear apart, was easy to clean, was both warm (in winter) and cool (in summer), and still looked nice.

Flor delivered on every level…

Not only have they held up to the abuse our extremely pet-friendly home reigns down on all types of flooring, but they have retained their beautiful colors, held up to sharp claws without snagging, and remain simple to clean. Flor has indeed set a new standard for fashion and utility in our home.

Whether you have cats, dogs, ferrets or kids – this is a perfect flooring solution for kitchens, mud rooms, TV rooms, and more. Any place you need a comfortable, secure surface that is easily cleaned and very fashionable.
