We are still working hard on our training and we’re finally seeing some results from these hard-headed dogs of ours. They are slow learners, there is no doubt about that, and they demand to be rewarded for their hard work. So, what’s a girl to do when she’s working with dogs that tend to gain weight easily? Find low-calorie treats that actually keep them slim.

As you know, we’re huge fans of The Honest Kitchen. (If you haven’t already, be sure to check out our other articles on why we love them so much).  The Honest Kitchen just came out with a new line of training treats that the dogs and cats love, so we wanted to share them (and a few other favorites) with you.

First off, what’s not to love about this name?! These cute little heart-shaped treats are made from 100% Icelandic haddock that has been compressed to form a tiny treat that is a perfect reward for your pup. If you have an agility dog or a highly active dog, these are really perfect for you as they are high-protein, low-carb and still contain those natural fish oils that are so important for a healthy coat. At just 1.1 calories per treat, you can feed quite a few of these to your pets without worry! Also, Quickies are packaged in a 2 oz. eco-friendly tube that can fit in your pocket while you’re on the go.

We’re moving into summer and that means we need to find some toys that can hold up to the wear and tear of pool dunks, lake swims, and chewing in the cool mud. It also makes it more interesting if you can arrange for your toy to be completely customized. Pride Bites allows you to do this.

Now you can create a toy that is all about your pets. Whether its your own face, your favorite team logo, or your pet’s image, the options for personalization are limited only by your creativity. Click here to customize your own chew toy for your pets. The price of a customized PrideBite toy is $24.99 and that includes our image, art rendering and more.

As an author, I have a soft spot for my fellow artists no matter if their medium of choice is watercolor, words, wood or wind instruments. I wanted to take a minute to profile a few that you may not know about because they are truly brilliant and don’t get enough credit in my humble opinion.

Here’s a very quick look at a few of my favorites, BZTAT Studios, Sara England, and J. Anne Butler...

BZTAT Studios

Vicki Boatright is the accomplished artist behind BZTAT Studios and holds several public art projects to her name. Little wonder, as her art is comprised of colorful and contemporary dog and cat portraits that we love to stare at for hours! She utilizes complex blends of colors to make the simplest photo into a complex piece of art (Our favorite one is the two cats with a moon in the background).

While we were at Global Pet Expo, we met and immediately loved the Wacky Paws line of aesthetically-pleasing products. These unique, modern-looking harnesses, carriers and life vests are some of the more colorful and fun pet products that we’ve seen on the market. Here’s a brief look at a few of our favorites:

Travel Dog Harness :

This is a great travel harness for your pet. The packs are easily removable, and it doubles as an actual harness. One thing we recommend is that you order a size larger than you think you’ll need as they run very small.
