Wooly Snuffle Mat Slows Down Dog's Eating

If you have a pet that wolfs his food down, there is a new solution for you. The Wooly 5 Feeding Mat makes your dog work a little harder for their kibble and it’s one of the best ways to slow down your pet’s eating - without a lot of effort.

Just sprinkle your dog’s food or treats onto the long, thick fibers and it magically drops into the base of the mat. Your pets’ natural foraging instincts kick in and they will snuffle through the mat as they sniff out the food.

The Wooly Snuffle Mat from Paw5 has been a revolution in our home, despite our using the mat a little differently.

The Awkward Topic of Dog Tush Wipes

Having a dog is not always tossing Frisbees and cuddling on the couch during those cold nights. There are lots of times you have to play nursemaid, do extensive grooming and (as you know), they are forever getting into things that are unpleasant (and even more unpleasant when they come back out).

Some dogs need some extra help staying clean, for example ill pets or senior pets often need extra help with keeping their tushies clean.

Some dogs (like Bree) have a genetic defect known as hypoplastic vulva which is a common condition of canine conformation in which the vulva is at least partially engulfed by the skin folds that surround it. Spayed female dogs are predisposed to this condition and if you don’t keep that area clean, your dog can wind up with bacteria in that area - causing ongoing issues with yeast infections, UTIs and more.

So, as much as this is not our favorite topic, its an important one - we’re talking about cleaning the nether regions and more importantly, the benefits of tush wipes.

The Benefits of Bone Broth

You’ve likely all heard the arguments for giving your dogs bone broth, the nutrient-dense stock liquid made from simmering raw or cooked bones at low heat over long periods of time. It’s a popular supplement not only for pets, but for humans as well.

Bone broth is rich in nutrients and carnivores (and omnivores) love the taste.

There are a number of recorded benefits to giving this to your pets. It can help alleviate pain associated with inflammation (*like arthritis), digestive disorders (like leaky gut and food allergies) and bone broth also supports good joint health. In fact, it tops the list of natural remedies for soothing stiff joints.

So, we know that there are tons of benefits to giving your pet bone broth, but honestly, who has the time to make batches of bone broth every week? We found some options for those who don't want to cook.

We have three very big dogs who love to chew. Yet for years, it felt like we were struggling to find safe chews to give them. Either the chews were not strong enough and only lasted a few seconds, or the didn’t do what we thought they would do, or the dogs just wolfed them down in a solid piece creating a huge potential for veterinarian bills and a giant health risk.

However, thanks to manufacturers who constantly innovate, we now have hundreds of choices. Today, we're talking about one that's not even on the market yet and others that we know and love.

Remember, it's very important to supervise your pet while giving any type of treat or chew and you need to be sure to purchase size-appropriate chews. If you're unsure, ask your veterinarian.

These are a few of the newest favorites...

Winter is Coming - and so is Carolina Pet Pendleton

Winter is coming. That’s what they tell me anyway - it’s hard to predict when you live in the desert. Fortunately, we’re all prepared for the inevitable cold snap thanks to the Pendleton collection from Carolina Pet.

Carolina Pet’s Pendleton collection was inspired by the first National Park blanket patterns woven by Pendleton in 1916. That same year, the National Park Service was founded to support and protect our National Parks.

To coincide with the Centennial Celebration of the National Park Service in 2016, Carolina Pet transferred these beautiful patterns onto pet-friendly fleece and wool fabrics.

Each bed carries a woven label of the park it represents along with the “Warrantied to be a Pendleton” brand label.  Your purchase provides a donation to the National Park Foundation to support national park projects and help preserve and protect our beautiful parks system.

See for yourself how fun these patterns are!
