This year, Rover.com took an early survey to discuss which Irish names are the most popular among pet lovers in the USA. The result is a fun, informative infographic that gives us an overview of our most favorite Irish things in the US.

As it turns out, Americans are pretty obsessed with the Emerald Isle. Here are a few other things you may not know:

Louisville, KY surprisingly ranks #1 for the most Irish-named dogs; San Francisco ranks #1 for most Irish dog breeds, with neighboring city Vallejo ranking #1 for most Irish food & beverage dog names.

Irish Actor Liam Neeson (who does not appear to be a fan of wolves or wolf lovers) nevertheless appears to lead the pack for actor-inspired Irish dog names. We won't know his feelings on wolves for sure until we ask him, but rest assured, we'll be reporting comments when/if we do.

Guinness made the list for #3 alcohol-related top dog names in 2014. Surprising considering all of the other amazing dog brews on the market!

And now, here is the list of popular Irish dog names!

Just as a side note, I realized that most of my animals have Irish names:

  • Tristan (It's actually Welsh, or that's where I found the name, but mentioned below as an Irish name). This was the name of my coyote/wolf hybrid.
  • Bree (Gaelic for "power" or "ascend") is my female pointer/pit mix
  • Brock (Irish Gaelic for "badger") is my pointer/pit mix
  • and of course, Cody is my sister's dog!
